“Philoptochos” translates as “friends to the poor”, and our mission is to promote
charitable, benevolent and philanthropic outreach, to preserve the sanctity of life
and family, to perpetuate and promote our Greek Orthodox Faith and traditions.
Our Philoptochos chapter is very involved in aiding the poor in spirit, poor in
health, poor in emotional stability and in whatever and whenever needed to lead a
fulfilling and healthy life in the community.
Philoptochos is also the right arm of the Orthodox Church and Community and is
always prepared to assist whatever and whenever needed. They promote the
charitable, benevolent and philanthropic purposes of the Greek Orthodox
Archdiocese of Canada by instructional programming, presentations, lectures,
seminars and educational resources supporting the various financial needs through
Erano or collections and fundraising throughout the year
Today there are more than 450 chapters throughout North America. Currently there
15 active chapters across Canada serving the Orthodox Communities.
Was established in 1977 with 28 members and a new executive.
